How to Choose the Right Size for Your Epoxy Resin Dining Table
Delen
Choosing the size of a dining table is harder than choosing its design. A table that is too small leaves guests squeezed at the edge, and a table that is too large can swallow the room. Because every Leonardo Gravina table is made to order, you do not have to settle for a standard size. This guide helps you find the right one before you start.
Start with how many people you really host
Think about the number of people at your table on a normal week, then the number on the busiest days of the year. Most households choose a size for the busy days and are happy with it the rest of the time, because a slightly larger table is rarely a problem. If you often host more than eight people, it is worth looking at the longer sizes from the start.
Seating guide for rectangular and oval tables
These are the sizes we make most often, with the number of people they seat comfortably.
| Size | Seats |
|---|---|
| 160 x 90 cm | 4 to 6 |
| 180 x 90 cm | 6 |
| 200 x 100 cm (most popular) | 6 to 8 |
| 220 x 100 cm | 8 |
| 240 x 100 cm | 8 |
| 260 x 110 cm | 8 to 10 |
| 280 x 120 cm | 10 |
| 300 x 120 cm | 10 to 12 |
| 500 x 120 cm | 20 |
Sizes in between and beyond are possible. Custom sizes are made on request, so if you need a table that fits a specific wall or alcove, we can build it to the centimeter.
Seating guide for round tables
A round table has no head and no foot, so everyone sits at the same distance from each other. It is a good choice for conversation, and for smaller rooms where a long table would not fit.
- 110 cm: seats 4
- 140 cm: seats 6, our most popular round size
- 160 cm: seats 8
- 180 cm: seats 10
- 200 cm: seats 12
Round tables are available from 110 to 200 cm in steps of 10 cm. You can see an example in our round silver and gold dining table, or browse the full round table collection.
Think about the room, not just the table
A table needs space around it as well as space on it. As a common rule of thumb, leave around 90 cm between the table edge and the nearest wall or furniture, so chairs can be pulled out and people can walk behind them. Measure your room, then subtract this space on each side to find the largest table that works.
A few practical checks help:
- Mark the table size on the floor with masking tape and walk around it.
- Check doors, stairs, and corridors, so you know the table can be carried in. We pack every table in a custom timber crate, and we can advise on delivery to your location.
- Allow for the base. Designer legs and a spider base leave different amounts of legroom, which changes how many people sit comfortably at each end.
Width matters as much as length
A table that is 90 cm wide feels slim and suits smaller rooms. At 100 cm you have enough space for plates and serving dishes, and at 110 to 120 cm you can place a centerpiece without crowding anyone. The wider sizes also make the artwork in the resin more visible, which is part of why people choose a table like our transparent blue galaxy dining table, where the surface is the main feature of the room.
Choosing the shape
Rectangular tables are the classic choice for long rooms and larger families. Oval tables soften the corners and suit narrower rooms where people walk past. Round tables work best in squarer spaces. Organic shapes, with flowing edges, are also possible, and they turn the table into a piece of art. If you are unsure, send us a photo of the room and we will advise on the shape and the size together.
The design changes how large a table feels
A bold pattern can make a large table feel more present, and a quiet surface can make it feel lighter. A pale design such as our white and silver epoxy dining table reflects light and makes a room feel more open, while a rich piece like our 24 carat gold dining table becomes the centerpiece of the room. The gold marble design table sits between the two. You can read how the surfaces are built in the art of depth.
What happens after you choose
Once you have a size, we make the table to order. Production takes 6 to 8 weeks, with free, fully insured shipping and a 50% deposit to secure your slot, and you approve the finished table before it ships. Want to know the full price picture? Frequently asked questions
What size dining table do I need for 6 people?
A 200 x 100 cm rectangular or oval table seats 6 to 8 and is our most popular size. A 180 x 90 cm table seats 6 more tightly, and a 140 cm round table also seats 6.
What size dining table do I need for 8 people?
A 220 x 100 cm or 240 x 100 cm table seats 8. A 160 cm round table also seats 8.
How much space do I need around the table?
As a common rule of thumb, leave around 90 cm between the table and the nearest wall or furniture, so chairs can be moved and guests can walk past.
Is a round or a rectangular table better?
Round tables suit squarer rooms and encourage conversation. Rectangular tables suit longer rooms and larger groups. We can make both, and also oval and organic shapes.
Can I order a size that is not in the guide?
Yes. Every table is made to order, so custom sizes are possible. Contact us with the dimensions of your room and we will advise.
Can I change the size after I order?
Once production has started, the size can no longer be changed, so it is worth choosing carefully. If something does come up, contact us and we will look for a solution together. We are also happy to talk it through before you order, by video call or in our showroom.
