How Long Do Epoxy Tables Last? The Honest Answer from a Master Craftsman

If you’re considering investing in an epoxy resin table, one of the first questions you’ll ask is: how long will it actually last?
It’s a fair question — and one that deserves a straight answer. As a craftsman who has been hand-building epoxy resin tables for years and delivered pieces to clients across Europe, the US, Canada, and Australia, I’ll give you the honest truth.
The Short Answer: Decades — If Made Properly
A well-crafted epoxy resin table can last 30, 40, even 50+ years — potentially a lifetime. I have clients who treat their table as a family heirloom, not just furniture.
But — and this is important — longevity depends almost entirely on how the table is made. Not all epoxy tables are created equal.
What Determines How Long an Epoxy Table Lasts?
1. The Quality of the Epoxy Resin
2. The Number of Layers and Curing Time
Rushing the process destroys longevity. Each layer of resin must be poured at the correct thickness and allowed to cure fully before the next is added. I work in multiple layers — sometimes over several days — to ensure structural integrity throughout the entire piece.
A table poured too quickly or too thick can develop internal stress fractures over time. You won’t see them at first. You will 3. The Foundation Material
3. The Foundation Material
The base beneath the resin matters enormously. I primarily work with high-quality block board as my foundation — a material chosen for its dimensional stability, strength, and resistance to warping over time.
A foundation that moves, expands, or twists will eventually stress the resin above it. Block board, properly prepared and sealed, provides a solid, stable base that stays true for decades. This is one of those craftsman decisions that clients never see — but they benefit from it every day.
4. The Finish and Protective Coating
The surface finish is the last line of defence. A proper topcoat protects the resin from daily wear: hot cups, keys, spilled wine. Without it, even the best resin will show scratches and surface damage within a few years.
What About UV Yellowing?
This is one of the most common concerns — and a legitimate one. Cheap epoxy resin yellows when exposed to sunlight. Good epoxy resin does not.
UV-stable resin, combined with proper finishing, ensures your table retains its colour and clarity year after year. If you place your table near a window or in a sun-filled room, UV stability is not a nice-to-have — it’s essential.
How to Make Your Epoxy Table Last Even Longer
A Table Made to Last Generations
Every table I create is built with permanence in mind. I don’t make furniture for trends. I make pieces that are meant to sit in the heart of a home for decades — pieces that will outlast the home décor around them.
When a client invests in a Leonardo Gravina table, they are not buying something they will replace in five years. They are acquiring something they will pass down.
That is the standard I hold myself to on every single piece.
The Bottom Line
How long does an epoxy table last?
Made properly — with professional resin, proper curing, quality materials, and skilled craftsmanship — an epoxy resin table will last a lifetime. Decades of daily use, still beautiful.
Made cheaply — rushed, with inferior resin, insufficient layers — you may start seeing yellowing, delamination, or surface damage within just a few years.
The difference is not in the material. It’s in the maker.
