When most people search for a river table, they have a specific image in mind: two slabs of live-edge wood, a strip of blue or clear epoxy running between them like a frozen stream, sealed under a glossy finish. It’s a formula that became popular for a reason — there’s something undeniably beautiful about the idea of nature meeting material.
But a formula, by definition, repeats itself.
I’ve been creating epoxy resin tables for over a decade, and I make river tables too. Just not like that.
No Wood. No Formula. No Limits.
In a traditional river table, the wood dictates everything. The shape of the live edge determines where the river flows. The colour of the timber sets the mood. The epoxy fills the gap — it plays a supporting role.
In my work, epoxy is the main character.
Every table I create starts from scratch — not from a plank of wood, but from a conversation. What atmosphere do you want at your dining table? What colours live in your home? What should people feel when they walk into the room and see it?
From that conversation, I build the composition layer by layer. Multiple pours of epoxy resin, each one adding depth, movement, and dimension. The result isn’t a table with a river in it — it’s a table that is a river. Or a marble landscape. Or a geological cross-section from a planet that doesn’t exist yet.
Every Technique Is Different
This is the part I’m most proud of, and the part that’s hardest to explain until you see it.
I don’t have a signature style in the conventional sense. I have a signature approach: start with the client, end with something that has never been made before.
Some tables are inspired by natural stone — deep marble veining in white and grey, gold mica running through like a fault line, sealed under crystal-clear epoxy that gives the surface a depth you can almost fall into.
Others are built around a river of pure gold. Not paint, not metallic powder — a three-dimensional channel of amber and bronze tones that catches light differently from every angle, shifting between warm and cold depending on where you stand.
Some incorporate real gemstones. Sliced agate, amethyst, raw crystal — embedded directly into the resin, suspended mid-table like a geological museum piece you eat dinner on every night.
And then there are the dramatic ones: all-black compositions with a white storm moving through the centre, or obsidian-dark surfaces where a single copper vein glows like molten metal just below the surface.
Same category — river table — completely different worlds.
Why This Matters When You’re Choosing a Table
If you’re investing in a statement dining table, the question isn’t just “which style do I like?” It’s “do I want something that exists, or something that’s mine?”
A traditional river table, however beautiful, is one of thousands made to the same template. Walk into enough showrooms and you’ll start to see the same table again and again.
What I create doesn’t exist until we decide it should.
The dimensions, the colour palette, the movement of the composition, the finish — everything is decided together, built for your space, your light, your life. The lead time is 6 to 8 weeks. The result is permanent.
The Craft Behind the Surface
What makes this possible is patience and layers.
Epoxy resin cures slowly. Each pour has to set before the next one begins. Building a table with real visual depth — the kind where you look at the surface and feel like you’re looking into something — requires multiple sessions, careful temperature control, and a precise understanding of how pigments and resins move against each other.
There’s no shortcut to that depth. You can’t fake it with a single pour and a heat gun. It has to be built, layer by layer, the way a painter builds up a canvas.
That’s the difference you see in the photographs. And it’s an even bigger difference when you’re standing in front of the table in real life.
